IPL FAQs
1. What is the technology behind Pink Parlour's permanent hair removal treatments?
VE-Light or commonly known as E-light is a form of hair removal using a combination of intense pulse light (IPL) and bi-polar radio frequency. This is an advancement from traditional IPL.
2. How is VE-Light different from traditional IPL?
The intense light (IPL technology) detacts the contrast between the hair follicle and the skin and travels through the tissue of the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root) of the hair. Light is converted to heat energy destroying the bulb, most of the hair shaft and the entire hair follicle. VE-Lights combination of IPL with Radio Frequency, we are able to bring the heat deep towards the follicles even with less contrast between the hair and skin colour (eg. blond hair blond skin and dark hair dark skin) without the risk of burning. This enables us to treat skin and hair types which are traditionally unable to be treated by IPL at a lower energy with higher effectiveness. This technology also works very well on fine and thin hair.
FOR SIMPLICITY, WE REFER TO OUR PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT AS IPL.
3. How many sessions is needed to completely remove hair?
This depends on the hair texture and individual hair growth cycle. Most people will notice a significant reduction in hair growth after 1 to 2 sessions. In general, 6 to 8 sessions over a course of 6-12 months should be sufficient unless the area concerned is very sensitive or dark coloured, and requires very low energy settings on each treatment.
4. Why do I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks between each session?
This is to give ample time for the hair to grow out. We are only able to effectively treat hair that on the surface or very close to the surface of the skin.
5. How permanent is the result?
In general, you can expect to be hair free for many months thereafter if the treatment was done correctly and successfully. Some people may have sparse hair growth after a year or two, these may be hair that have been dormant during the time of the hair removal treatments but in such cases, most are fine enough to be tweezed off easily. A 'touch-up' session can be done to take care of these. There are some cases of women undergoing hormone therapies and have found that significant amounts of hair growth thereafter. Such candidates are not suitable for IPL until after hormone therapies are ceased.
6. Is the treatment painful?
Most people describe the sensation as similar to rubber band shooting on the surface of the skin. In order for the IPL treatment to be effective, it cannot be totally 'painless' as this will mean that the settings of the machine is too low to give intended results.
“Painless” Permanent Hair Removal claims may be possible, but this also means forgoing efficiency by either lowering intensitiy settings or significantly reducing skin surface temperatures, rendering less effective shots since the technology works on light and heat. Our goal is to achieve optimal results with each session so that we can ensure your whole course of permanent hair removal can be completed within the suggested required sessions or less unless otherwise recommended.
7. I have heard of friends undergoing over 16 sessions elsewhere and still have a lot of hair, is it true that IPL is not effective?
This has to do with the proper setting of the machine, the frequency between treatments, the technology and the method used. At Pink Parlour, we are committed to optimizing your every session so you are not wasting your money and time. You should notice results with each session. Traditional IPL is not effective on people with blond hair and may burn people with dark skin. However advanced IPL used in Pink Parlour is able to help these people. With the proper operations and settings one should not require that many sessions unless the candidate is medically not suitable.
8. Can I wax while undergoing Permanent Hair Removal?
No. In order to target hair with it's roots, shaving is recommended instead as we want to leave the roots active and intact for each session so that we can effectively treat each of them. Roots that are not present during your IPL sessions cannot be targeted.
9. How do I prepare myself for Permanent Hair Removal?
Simply avoid waxing or epilating for 2 weeks to 1 month. You may shave instead. Leave your hair to grow for 3 days before your scheduled appointment. Short stubbles are best to start your treatment.
10. I have very bad ingrown hair. Will Permanent Hair Removal treat them?
Yes. This is a great option for people who constantly face ingrown hair problems. The advanced IPL is able to detect the ingrown hair and its root thus effectively ceasing ingrown hair problems.
11. Which areas can I undergo Permanent Hair Removal?
Almost any area of the body including face (except eyebrows), arms, underams, bikini, brazilian (may need more treatments) and legs.
