How to maintain your salon manicure between visits

If you take proper care, you can enjoy a beautiful, salon-quality manicure for 2 to 3 weeks. Here are some tips on how to keep your manicure looking glossy and chip-free for as long as possible.

Avoid heat and water immediately after your manicure Since nail lacquer can take several hours to set and harden, you should avoid hot showers and baths immediately after your manicure. Even washing your hands can loosen your polish and minimize the top coat luster.

Wear rubber gloves for washing dishes and cleaning chores If you have a strong set of nails, you’ve probably caught yourself using them to lift tape, pull out staples or pick at surfaces and other substances. This bad habit won’t do you any favors if you want to maintain the perfection of keeping your bold, shiny manicure. Wearing rubber gloves to wash dishes will protect your nails from becoming soft and your hands from chaffing and drying. Rubber globes also keep household cleaning solvents from breaking down the color and coating your nails.

Nourish your nails with nutritional supplements Proactive care for your nails, skin, and hair begins with a healthy diet. With regular intake, nutritional supplements like Biotin, Vitamin B7, Vitamin B12, Zinc, and L-Lysine can stimulate nail protein to make them grow stronger and longer.

Apply a growth elixir Between salon visits, apply a growth elixir to your nail care routine. Many of these coatings and serums are infused with vitamin peptides and Biotin.

Avoid filing, cutting, or lifting Don’t file or cut your nails between salon visits, or else the seal of the polish will lift around the edges. You can lightly buff the raised edge and apply a clear top coat instead. If you are skilled with polishing, you can fill the growth or chipped areas with a skinny coat of color. Do not pick or lift the polish at any cost.

Hydrate your cuticles and hands daily Keep your cuticles and hands hydrated. Lock in moisture with a cuticle oil that can penetrate the nail beyond the layers of polish. Use an enriched hand moisturizer to soothe chapped skin and prevent nails from becoming brittle. For extra TLC, wear cotton gloves at night to prolong the effects of the moisturizer.
